Kenora MP Says Northern Electrical Grid Funding Is Just The Beginning

Kenora MP Bob Nault says a $1.6-billion commitment to open up 17 communities in the Far North is just the beginning.

Nault is referring to recent federal funding to connect the First Nations to the electrical grid.

He points out that work has started on the Pikangikum grid connection, with the project expected to be completed in September or October.

Nault notes next Summer the government will start on the power line from Dinorwic to Pickle Lake, and then from Pikangikum to all of the other communities.

He stresses the infrastructure expansion will have major economic spin-offs for the Dryden area.

Nault says this is the beginning of a long journey that they need to open up the north and give communities the basic infrastructure that we take for granted. (File Photo)
