Kenora MP Upset With Handling Of Keystone XL

The federal Conservatives aren’t impressed with the governments handling of the Keystone XL Pipeline file.

Kenora MP Eric Melillo believes the Prime Minister did little to fight for the project when President Biden vetoed it in his first day in office.

Now the Opposition party is voicing its disappointment with Liberal MP’s shutting down debate at the committee level to study the Canadian impacts of the cancellation.

Melillo says it’s vitally important that we have a government that is going to fight for Canadian jobs and Canadian workers.

“Justin Trudeau had said that he would stand-up for Canadian workers and Canadian jobs. However his statements and his actions say otherwise.”

Melillo says the project is very important to the economy of Alberta and the people of Alberta but adds, “It’s important across the country. When our economy is growing and jobs are being created in one part of the country, it has ripple effects across the country in terms of jobs and in terms of economic activity.”

He says the project also provides the funds that we need for the government to be able to afford social services programs.

Melillo believes we need to do a better job of promoting clean Canadian energy.

Melillo says other countries need to understand our country has some of the strongest environmental regulations and strict frameworks for workers rights in the world.

He adds the federal government should be advocating for Canadian energy and natural resources projects and right now they clearly aren’t doing that.
