The Special Investigations Unit has determined that a Kenora OPP officer did not commit a criminal offence in relation to a March incident.
34-year-old Toby Kakegamic was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.
The SIU says while in the holding cell, Kagegamic tried to open the cell door on several occasions, while officers attempted to lock the door.
The man’s left index finger got caught between the door and the frame and the tip was severed.
The SIU determined the incident was accidental and the officer didn’t intend to hurt the man.
