Kenora passes resolution in support of the Treaty #3 Police

Kenora city council is throwing it’s support behind the Treaty #3 Police Service.

Council has passed a resolution calling on the federal and provincial levels of government to continue funding the police force.

A funding agreement expired at the end of March, but federal government has promised three months interim funding while work on a longer-term agreement is finalized.

The city’s resolution says the funding should come through the First Nations Policing Program while new legislation is being developed.

City council calls the Treaty #3 Police a key partner in its Crime Prevention and Community response.

The resolution calls the existing program significantly underfunded.
