Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs is blaming CN Rail for keeping the James Street Swing Bridge closed.
It follows the city’s rejection of the railway giant’s offer to share the costs of repairing the bridge.
Hobbs says CN hasn’t been a good corporate citizen in the matter.
He says the company is being “irresponsible” and it’s clear that they want out of the 1906 agreement.
Hobbs says the city believes it stands on solid legal ground in making its demand that CN pay the cost for repairing the bridge.
He notes they will now undertake a full internal review of their rights and obligations to CN.
Hobbs adds that they are still open for negotiations.
The bridge has been closed to cars and pedestrians since a fire last October.
