Aboriginal leaders with the remote Northern community of Big Trout Lake
First Nation are encouraging the Canadian Justice System to send them to
jail over an ongoing dispute with mining company Platinex.
A Superior Court Judge has accepted a Platinex motion for contempt
against the KI First Nation.
Earlier this year, the company was granted permission to resume
drilling in the area but stopped due to strong opposition from the
community.
Chief Donny Morris says band members are prepared to go to jail and
notes if the company steps foot on their land without their consent, a
peaceful protest will occur.
