The City of Kenora voted 4-3 in favour of hiring the OPP
as the lone police force for the municipality.
The OPP proposal is almost 2 million dollars less than
the Kenora Police bid, and includes 42.5 officers.
An Ontario Civilian Commision on Police Services hearing
will be held in the near future.
KPS Chief Dan Jorgenson says it will be likely several
months before a hearing occurs.
Jorgenson plans to oppose the disbandment of the KPS at
the hearing.
The Police Chief feels 42.5 officers will not provide
adequate and effective policing in Kenora.
