Challenges in the mining industry are hoping to get a break.
The Northwest Training and Adjustment Board is teaming up with the Mining Industry Human Resources Council to forecast labour market needs.
It will involve 66 mining and mining related companies across Ontario.
Executive Director of the Board Sonja Wainio hopes the forecast will attract more interest to the industry, especially in the Kenora and Rainy River Districts.
“We know that with retirements and with the mining industry starting to grow in our area, there’s going to be work available, and we are trying to engage our First Nations in becoming involved in it”.
Wainio will be interviewing mining companies from now until the fall about what they need and are looking for.
The initiative is part of a $200,775 project to review the training needs and hiring requirements of the mining industry throughout the North.
