The Town of Ignace has asked the Ministry of Labour to start the countdown to a legal lockout or strike deadline.
The Town made the move after giving the Union representing 12-municipal workers its final contract offer.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees claim the Municipality is trying to contract out 2-part time positions and strip away employee benefits from part-time workers.
Ignace officials claim CUPE employees have one of the richest collective agreements in the region.
Administrator Treasurer Wayne Hanchard says custodial and landfill attendant services would be contracted out under the proposal.
He says that’s common practice in most other Municipalities.
