Lac Seul First Nation hosts animal clinic with Ontario SPCA

Over 60 animals were spayed or neutered during a community animal wellness event in Lac Seul First Nation.

The clinic was hosted in Frenchman’s Head from July 17-20 in partnership with the Ontario SPCA.

A total of 37 cats and 25 dogs were spayed or neutered, preventing an estimated 3,000 unplanned puppies and kittens. The event also included 30 animal wellness appointments, where 159 vaccines were administered.

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society host MASH-style spay/neuter and wellness clinics to reach underserved communities. These portable outreach events are designed to be easily packed up and transported to wherever they are needed.

Pet Valu in Thunder Bay donated 50 collars and leashes for the event and Second Chance Pet Network in Dryden took in multiple furry friends who needed homes. Hillcrest Animal Clinic and Trans Canada Pet Clinic in Dryden provided critical supplies to keep the event running.
