Kenora Area Lake Being Tested For Toxins

The Northwestern Health Unit says a sample of blue-green algae on Lulu Lake, west of Kenora, is being tested by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks for toxins.

The algae bloom was discovered last month.

The Health Unit is asking the public to not drink the water or use it for household purposes or swimming and keep pets away from the lake as well.

Even though the algae might have disappeared, health officials says the toxins can stick around for up to two weeks.
