If a number of american cities have their way, Lake of the Woods could become their source of drinking water.
The city of Fargo, North Dakota currently relies on the Red River for drinking water, but growth forecasts predict massive shortages by 2050.
A proposed pipeline would go directly from Lake of the Woods to Fargo. There would also be connections to a number of communities along the way including East Grand Foks and Breckenridge, Minnesota.
Kenora mayor Dave Canfield says any action that might damage the lake would be unacceptible.
