Large Fire Burns In Wabigoon Area

A large grass fire in the Wabigoon area yesterday afternoon provided a true test for firefighters.
Wabigoon and Dryden fire crews were dispatched to the blaze.
Wabigoon Fire Prevention Officer Richard Wetelainen says the fast moving fire was burning off of Highway 17 at Turgeon Road.
He says the fire was moving rapidly down the pipeline
High winds quickly fanned the fire and forced firefighters to turn around.
Ministry of Natural Resources water bombers and helicopters suppressed the fire.
Wetelainen says the blaze was human caused.
This follows a large fire in Oxdrift on Sunday and officials ask that you not burn in windy conditions.
