The family of a 14-year-old Lac Seul girl is seeking $500,000 in damages from the OPP after she was tasered in the cells of the Sioux Lookout Detachment this past summer.
Jeff Roberts is the family’s lawyer and says the use of force was completely inappropriate under the circumstances.
Roberts says if 2-OPP officers can’t handle a 14-year-old in a jail cell, what are they doing with serious criminals.
He adds they want to make a point that this type of behavior is unacceptable.
The girl’s father, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, says he just wants to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to another young person.
Its believed the girl is the youngest person to ever be tasered in Canada.
The O.P.P. has not yet presented its statement of defense in the lawsuit.
