There are some layoffs taking place at North American Palladium’s Lac des Iles mine north of Thunder Bay.
The company says as the result of weak metal prices, its taken steps to reduce the workforce at the mine by 44 employees which includes 18 staff and 26 unionized positions.
As well, the company says that 17 vacancies will not be filled.
Tied to the reduction is the decision to return to a two week on and two week off operating schedule at the mine.
Following the layoffs, the site will employ a total of 422 workers.
