Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton and the Communications, Energy and
Paperworkers Union have joined forces in the fight to save the forest
sector.
Both are calling on both levels of Government to implement the
recommendations contained in a Canadian Centre for Policy Alternative report
Layton says timber rights should be tied to the communities who depend on the industry.
Layton adds a seperate electricity plan for the North is a no-brainer
but notes the McGuinty Government doesn’t seem to care to make the changes.
He is also calling for a Chief Forester to oversee an audit of the
Region’s resources and a new Northern Ontario Jobs and Communities
Commission.
