The LED street light conversation project is underway in Dryden.
Work started Monday on Highway 17 by Lough Electric and two crews are now in the process of replacing almost 1,200 lights.
Public Works Manager Blake Poole says they are expecting to save about $120,000 a year with the new lights.
Poole anticipates a payback period of just over four years.
He adds there should be a significant reduction in maintenance costs and fewer outages at night.
The light replacement is expected to last eight weeks.
Poole notes the public may see the lights on during the work.
