Leonard Dyck

In loving memory of Leonard W. Dyck who passed away peacefully January 3, 2007 in the Dryden Regional Health Center following a brief illness. Born and raised in Winkler, MB on January 27, 1927, Len was the eldest of seven children born to Peter and Mary Dyck. He was an avid baseball player and as well as a hockey player. He began his automotive career working alongside his father. Len married Beatrix Dick in 1949 and they had two children: Sandy and Maureen while still in Winkler. Together they moved to Dryden in 1951 and Len took a job at Kraft Motors. He played baseball with the Dryden Red Sox for many years and was well known for his ability to drive the ball out of the park. During the winter he played hockey with the Dryden Rockets and in later years also coached and was a referee. He also was a member of the Dryden Town Band playing the trombone. Len enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf curling and camping but for all this he considered his family his primary concern including them in many of his activities. Len was predeceased by his mother and father and by his brother Ruben. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Beatrix of 57 years, his children: Sandy and wife Janice Dyck of Dryden and Maureen and husband Tom Goldrup of Hinton, AB. Len will also be missed by seven grandchildren: Adam (Jenn) Dyck, Allison (Chris) Johnston, Kelly Dyck, Sandi (Randall) Thompson, Peter (Marnie) Goldrup, Matthew Goldrup and David Goldrup. 8 great-grandchildren will also miss their Papa Len. He is also survived by two brothers: Menno and Harold Dyck, and three sisters: Ruth Braun, Julianna Dyck and Jayne Mayhew. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Church with Pastor Greg McKee officiating. Interment will follow in the Dryden Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Moffat Chapel.
