Liberal MPP Says Forest Fire Spending Is Way Down In 2019

The Premier needs to focus on forest fires in northwestern Ontario.

Liberal MPP Michael Coteau has issued that statement as a number of communities in the north have declared a State of Emergency to deal with out of control fires.

Coteau says Doug Ford is in denial about the serious threat.

He points out the province has allocated $69.8-million to Northern Ontario firefighting in 2019, far short of the 2018 actual spending of $212-million.

Coteau adds he’s appalled the Solicitor General is admitting it’s shaping up to be a challenging year without providing immediate action to make the funding available.

He is also calling on the Premier to stop making reckless and senseless spending cuts to climate-change mitigation.
