Liberal MPP’s React To Leadership Date

The Ontario Liberal party is holding its leadership convention on January 25th.
That’s only 3 months away.
Thunder Bay-Atikokan Liberal MPP Bill Mauro has some concerns about that date.
He says it is quickly coming up and doesn’t give candidates much time to go out and whip up support.
But, he stresses the government made a commitment to get this done as quickly as possible.
Mauro says he has a couple of potential members he’d like to see take a run for the job.
Minister of Natural Resources Michael Gravelle is on the same page.
Gravelle says there won’t be much time for candidates to make an impression.
Gravelle calls it a very short time frame that will favour candidates with a higher profile.
He says he’s pleased with the selected date and notes such a short turnaround will mean less uncertainty.
Gravelle says he’ll be watching which candidates express a passion for the north.
