Life In A Small Town

My thanks to one of the many Eagle River volunteers, Connie Calvert, who submitted the following………

“Without volunteers, our small communities would struggle. Yes, we have Municipalities but they work with very limited budgets.

We ‘get it’ in our small community and are fortunate enough to have willing volunteers to bring our dreams to fruition and keep our community current.
Every small town needs a core of ‘step up to the plate’ individuals. Those who will pitch in and make things happen. We have carpenters, fixers, brush removers, painters, an artist, decorators, visionaries, event organizers and most recently, two generous people who cleared and flooded our outdoor rink and with the help of Machin public works, we now have an outdoor rink ready to go.
Jesse Perrin (father of two) and Jeff Palker (father of four) took time out of their busy lives for the sake of the kids and the community. We hear so many negative rumblings in our world, this gesture warms our hearts and portrays what is good out there.
Thank you, thank you Jesse and Jeff. You have set a positive example.
As Jesse said when I contacted him to express our appreciation…
“Seeing kids out there skating and enjoying it makes it all worth it. I learned on an outdoor rink in my home town and know how important it is to everyone, so you’re very welcome.”
How fortunate are we to have all these people in our community?
Eagle River is an all inclusive, welcoming, helping community. I couldn’t be prouder to be a resident of this small hamlet. Lace up your skates and enjoy our outdoor rink. Hearing the puck hit the boards and skate blades on the ice warms the heart.”

Jesse Perrin worked on clearing and flooding the rink.
Jeff Palker flooded the rink and Machin Public Works did the finishing touches.

When not on-air Richard likes to cosplay as 'Spider-Dad McCarthy'. Listen weekday mornings from 6 to 10 on CKDR and on 'the web' at YourSunsetCountry.ca.
