Thanks to Mother Nature, it was a busy Sunday for northwestern Ontario fire crews.
12-new fires sparked, most as the result of lightning that passed through the far north.
Ten of the blazes are burning in the Sioux Lookout district.
Three of the fires are still listed as not under control, including a 10-hectare blaze about 15-kilometres west of Kingfisher Lake First Nation.
Despite the heat and recent lightning strikes, the forest fire hazard is low to moderate in the southern portions of the region.
It is high to extreme in the northern sections.
There are currently 42 active fires in northwestern Ontario, four considered not under control.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is also starting to demobilize crews and equipment from two large fires near North Spirit Lake and Sachigo Lake.
Those blazes have been burning for about a month but are now under control.
