It’s an opportunity of a lifetime for hundreds of young Indigenous hockey players.
The Lil Band Hockey Tournament is underway at the Dryden and Eagle Lake Arena’s.
Organizer Ziggy Beardy says 66-teams from 20-different communities are taking part this year.
Beardy says three teams from Garden Hill, Manitoba are also taking part.
Beardy says all youth age groups, including a Girls division, will be represented in the week long tournament.
He notes the youth always look forward to this event and stresses they have always had a great working relationship with the City of Dryden, arena staff, hotels and restaurants.
Beardy notes in a lot of cases, this is the kids first time leaving their home community.
There will be an opening ceremony at 1:00 Monday afternoon.
Indigenous youth in six different divisions will be involved in roughly 190-games.
