Lillian Berg School Promoting Healthy Living

A chance to enjoy the great outdoors and healthy lifestyles for students at Lillian Berg Public School in Vermilion Bay.

Every class recently participated in the “Great Big Crunch”, a national event to promote healthy eating habits and the importance of nutritious school food.

Students engaged in making apple sauce, tasted apples in a variety of ways, learned about the life cycle, and how the apple gets from an orchard to our supermarket.

They were treated to hearty pea soup, bannock and maple taffy.

A Forest Outdoor classroom was also held where a local trapper explained more about animals in the area and furs.

School officials say the event wouldn’t have been possible without the team and leadership skills displayed by Grade 8 students.

Lillian Berg School was featured exclusively in a link to highlight last year’s national events on the “Coalition for Healthy School Food” website.

A 2022 photo collage was sent to Ontario and B.C. Apple Farmer’s Commodity organizations as well as the Northwestern Health Unit, and the organizations responsible for organizing the “Great Big Crunch” event and school staff say, “It was amazing to receive their feedback and praise for our small school.”
