Lillian Callaghan

Surrounded by her loving family, Lillian May Callaghan nee Haight passed away peacefully at her residence in Princess Court. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Callaghan; her parents, Herbert and Emily Haight; her brothers, Harold, Clifford, Victor, William, Alvin, and Ernie; and her son-in-law, Stephen Rider.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Rider of Orillia and son Owen Callaghan (Denise) of Dryden; her grandchildren Cherie (Mervyn) Hoey, Kerri Anne (Michael) MacFarlane, Shawndel (Scott) Priebe, Michelyn (Greg) Maloney, Len (Helene) Rider, Shayne (Tanya) Callaghan and her great-grandchildren Chayse and Talyah Hoey, Jessie-Lynn and Tahlon MacFarlane, Shainah and Tyson Priebe, Annwyn and Saeren Maloney, Autumn and Owen Callaghan and Makenna Bowman.
Born January 12th, 1918 in Huntsville ON, Lillian grew up on the family farm. When World War II broke out, she courageously enlisted in the military. She served Overseas, as an ambulance driver. While serving in the military she met her husband and was married in England. Upon returning to Canada, the couple welcomed first their daughter, followed shortly by their son.
Lillian is remembered as the true matriarch of the family – independent, intelligent and caring. By her example, she bestowed many valuable life lessons including what it means to be a true woman.
Many of her favourite moments were spent on Lake Suzanne catching the ‘Big One’ and playing cards. She lived to enjoy each second that she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Lillian commented on her lovely disposition. She is well loved and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
As per Lillian’s wishes there will be no service. A private family service will be held at a later date in Huntsville, ON.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Grace Haven or a charity of your choice through the Dryden Community Funeral Home 249 Grand Trunk Ave. Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.
