Our very own, local actress Shirley Mclean has landed a background role in the upcoming feature film November 1963, starring John Travolta, Dermot Mulroney, and Jefferson White. The film, which wrapped shooting in Winnipeg, is set to release in 2026.
For Shirley, this marks another exciting chapter in a career. Originally from Little Saskatchewan First Nation in Manitoba, Shirley moved to Dryden in 1991, where she raised her family and built a life rooted in community and creativity. She’s been a familiar face in local theatre, joining Theatre 17 in Dryden, and has worked with Big Soul Productions.
Her breakout role came in Firesong, a powerful short film that screened at the Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival and TIFF in 2015. Since then, Shirley has continued to pursue her love of acting, appearing in the TV series Little Bird and the TIFF-featured film Aberdeen in 2024.
