Local Bowlers At Nationals In Kelowna

A local bowling team is on the national stage.

Dryden’s Ted Lake, Ralph Potter, June McNally and Kenora’s Jessica Scott are now competing in the Canadian 5 Pin Bowlers Championship in Kelowna, B.C.

They are joined by coach Tim Gadd from Dryden.

The team earned the spot after finishing first at the recent Northern Ontario Finals in Sudbury.

It was a weekend of great bowling for the Sunset Country contingent down in Sudbury this past weekend.

After 2 years of COVID restrictions, Northern Ontario 5 Pin Bowlers Association was able to host the annual Pins Over Average Provincial Tournament at Whitewater Lanes in Sudbury, ON. 12 teams from Northern Ontario met on the lanes to compete for the opportunity to advance to Nationals which will be held in Kelowna, BC at the end of April.

After 10 games, Team #1 from Sunset Country prevailed, coming in first place, earning their spot at Nationals. Ted Lake (Dryden), Ralph Potter (Dryden), Jessica Scott (Kenora) and June McNally (Dryden) and Coach Tim Gadd (Dryden) will head out to Kelowna April 22nd to compete for the
National Championship. Joining them will be the second place team from the Gateway Contingent (North Bay area).

The Sudbury tournament also consisted of a Hi-Lo Doubles and Executive Division In the Hi-lo division, Darry Rollins (Dryden) and Keith Kerney (Dryden) secured the bronze medal while Shauna McKay (Kenora) and Ariel Olford (Kenora) took the gold medal. In the Executive Treasurer’s Division, Robert Keeper (Dryden) took silver and Catherine Dashnay (Dryden) took Gold for the Secretary Division. Mel Morris (Dryden) bowled in the Presidents Division, finishing in 5th.
