Local Candidates Look Back

As election day draws near, candidates in Thunder Bay-Rainy River are looking back on their election campaigns.

Conservative Moe Comuzzi says she got a great response at the doors, noting the number one concern she heard from voters is that there’s so much untapped opportunity in this area. Commuzzi says we need jobs, we need to find a buyer for the Fort Frances Mill, and we need to get moving on the Ring of Fire.

Incumbent John Rafferty is confident of winning a third term, Monday night. The NDP candidate says he spent the last week of the campaign criss-crossing the riding one last time, in hopes of shoring up the necessary support. Rafferty says the recent resignation of the federal Liberal Quebec co-chair is an indication of what voters can expect if they form the next government.

Meanwhile, the Green Party candidate is looking at the glass half full. Christy Radbourne is calling her second foray into a federal election “a learning experience.” She says it gave her the opportunity to meet many who indicated plans to vote Green for the first time, noting she’s optimistic about her chances of winning Monday, as a high voter turn-out could give her the advantage.

And Liberal Don Rusnak says he wouldn’t do anything differently. Rusnak says he’s satisfied with his federal campaign, saying it went smoothly and was positive right from the beginning.
