Local CCAC Unionized Workers Now On Strike

Northwestern Ontario’s Community Care Access Centre workers are on strike.
Across the province 3,000 are walking the picket lines after they voted against their employers latest offer.
The Ontario Nurses’ Association says they’ve been seeking very small wage increases equal to the percentages given to the other 57,000 ONA members in the hospital, public health and long-term care sectors.
The CCAC members had a two-year wage freeze in their last contract, which expired March 31st, 2014.
Management at the CCAC say contingency plans are being implemented to support the ongoing provision of priority services to patients during this labour disruption.
They say the safety and well-being of patients remains the top priority.
CCAC staff not represented by ONA will continue to work during the labour disruption.
ONA spokesperson Chris Cormier says Community Care Centre CEO’s have been getting raises, and he speculates CEO’s in the region have received a 17% bump.
