Here’s today’s ‘Good News’!
The 2026 provincial budget updates highlight some big wins for the region’s infrastructure. Among them – in Sioux Lookout construction is progressing on the new MRI suite at the Meno Ya Win Health Centre, which is expected to be finished by the end of this year.
The Ontario government recently announced nearly $237,000 in funding for two key Dryden projects.
Van Horne Landing Dock: A significant portion is going toward structural repairs for the main dock. After historical water levels caused damage in previous years and a fire, this ensures the dock will be fully safe and functional for the upcoming boating and tourist season.
Firehall #1: The fire hall is getting a brand-new HVAC system, which not only improves the working conditions for staff and volunteers but also lowers the city’s operating costs through better energy efficiency.
The biggest news for Red Lake right now is the massive Great Bear Gold Project.
The Update: The project was recently fast-tracked by the province under the “One Project, One Process” framework. This is a big deal because it’s a $5 billion investment that is expected to create 1,100 high-paying jobs once operational.
Why it matters today: Kinross Gold is currently moving through the final environmental and funding stages, with major construction set to ramp up next year. This project is being called a “generational asset” that will secure Red Lake’s status as a global mining hub for decades.
All of that is good news!
