Thanks to the Dryden Entertainment Series (DES), local music lovers will get a chance to see some great music this Friday.
As part of the non-profit group’s efforts, acclaimed Americana and alternative country artist Kyle McKearney will headlining at the Dryden Performing Arts Centre for what is a special ‘pub night’ show.
As the chair of DES explains, the open seating event allows people to enjoy music in a more relaxed, casual environment.
“Because our back seats aren’t pulled out for this concert, people can bring drinks into the auditorium and enjoy a drink during the show,” says Wendy Wiedenhoeft. “It’s kind of a more informal concert experience and makes for a really enjoyable evening.”
Running for more than 50 years, the DES has been critical in bringing a diverse mix of emerging and established artists to the Dryden area every year.
That included an evening with legendary Canadian 90’s band Crash Test Dummies in September and previous shows by the likes of The Rankin Family, John McDermott, Jim Cuddy from Blue Rodeo and Serena Ryder.
“We certainly feel that the Dryden Entertainment Series, like other presenter series in our area, is extremely important to our specific towns,” notes Wiedenhoeft. “Our towns wouldn’t see this kind of talent locally without a series like ours.”
This year’s offerings from DES are just as full of talent as in years previous. Once Kyle McKearney finishes entertaining the Dryden crowds, local music fans can gear up for upcoming shows by the likes of longtime Nova Scotia act, The Barra MacNeils, Juno-nominated folk-blues artist Julian Taylor and Russell DeCarle, best known as the frontman for country act, Prairie Oyster.
Individual tickets can be purchased for each show presented by the Dryden Entertainment Series, but the organization also offers series subscriptions that may well prove worthy of the investment.
“At this point in time, you could pick a subscription that would get you into five more shows or six more shows or seven more shows,” adds Wiedenhoeft. “And at quite a reduced price so it really is a great deal.”
