The Northwestern Health Unit is reminding those over 50 to get routine screenings.
Public Health Nurse Kim Dalberg says colon cancer is one of the more serious cancers, affecting 8700 Ontario men and women this year.
However, it can be detected early with a Fecal Occult Blood test that can be obtained from a family doctor and done at home.
Those who don’t have a family doctor can call the Telehealth Ontario Colorectal cancer screening line at 1-866-828-9213.
Dalberg says men and women over 50 should get screened every 1-2 years.
