Local Leaders Discuss Infrastructure Concerns With Province

The provincial government says its heard loud and clear that the north needs stable, long term funding for infrastructure.

Municipal and First Nations reps from Dryden, Ear Falls, Pickle Lake, Fort Frances and Kenora gathered Wednesday to provide their feedback on the $11.5-billion Building Ontario Up Fund.

Parliamentary Assistant for Infrastructure and Economic Development Peter Milczyn says the province has rolled out a ten year plan and notes the needs of this region are different than in other parts of Ontario.

Milczyn says one concern raised was improving the Connecting Link fund for local highways.

He also recognizes water and sewer plants are in pretty rough shape.

Milczyn says there’s a lot of money available, he acknowledges not every community will have their priorities addressed.

He adds they need additional support from the federal government.
