Local Residents Will Compete In Speech Contest

On April 13th, Toastmasters Clubs from Area 22 participated in the annual International Speech Contest in Dryden. Fun was had by all when the audience listened to Jokes as well as Impromptu Speaking. Tickling the funny bones were Carmen Storey from Red Lake, Donny Little from Four Directions in Kenora, Linda Spence from Siouxper Speakers in Sioux Lookout and Osvalda Franklin from Dryden. Osvalda won the event talking about her dog in the car. The Impromptu Session had Marlene Elder from Four Directions, Jordan Evens from Dryden and Carmen Storey again from Red Lake. Marlene won the trophy for this event speaking about the environment and re-cycling; Jordan placed second.
The International Speech Contest had three contestants: Stu Cummings from Sioux Lookout with his speech “If Only”, Marlene Elder with “Excess Baggage” and Diann Redden from Dryden with “Taking Things for Granted”. Stu placed first and Marlene second.
Stu will represent Area 22 in the Division B Contest with his “If Only” speech and Marlene will take part in Table Topics (impromptu). These contests will be held in Winnipeg on April 20th. Pictured with their trophies are Stu and Marlene.
