Local School Boards Receiving More Cash For Special Education

Area school boards are getting a financial boost from the provincial government to assist children with special needs.

The Liberals plan to spend $300-million over the next three years towards special education.

Premier Kathleen Wynne says that funding will be made permanent.

The Ministry of Education says the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board will receive nearly $1.3-million next year while the Northwest Catholic District School Board is in line for $570,000.

Wynne says the investment will allow for the hiring of more education assists, specialists, social workers, behavioural specialists, psychologists and speech language therapists.
