Local Sports For Thursday, February 9th

Make it nine wins in row for the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.

The Ice Dogs defeated the Wisconsin Lumberjacks 5-1 Wednesday night.

Brady Frattinger scored another two goals for Dryden in the win, while Ben Hackl had a three point game with a goal and two assists.

The Ice Dogs also won against the Lumberjacks on Tuesday night 7-4 in Spooner.

In the other game in the SIJHL Wednesday night the Kam River Fighting Walleye downed the Thunder Bay North Stars 5-2 to stay four points up on Dryden for first place.

Meanwhile, the Kenora U18 AAA Thistles have lost their sixth game in a row.

They lost 6-1 to the Winnipeg Wild at the Kenora Rec. Center.

Lane Van De Wetering scored the lone goal for the Thistles.

In high school sports, the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints swept all four games played against the Ignace Falcons.

The Saints senior boys basketball team earned a 57-26 win. Sawyer Peters led the way with 27 points.

In junior boys basketball, TA got by the Falcons 51-44. Tazio Mastromatteo was the game’s high scorer with 14 points.

In girls volleyball, the Saints senior girls beat Ignace 3 sets to 1 and the TA junior girls shut out the Falcons 2 sets to none.
