A chance to show-off and promote the day-to-day operations at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry fire base in Dryden.
A number of Stewardship Rangers from Dryden, Wabigoon Lake and Eagle Lake recently toured the headquarters.
The visit introduced the 16 and 17-year-old’s in the annual summer work program to the diverse combination of skills in the fire program from water bomber pilots to computer networks, geographical information systems, to firefighting itself.
The students got a tour of a CL-415 Air Tanker and learned about the skills needed to fly an aircraft.
They also experienced first-hand the physical demands of being a fire ranger.
Co-Pilot Mike Towill and Fire Management Technician and former Youth Ranger Mike Dwyer assisted in the instruction.
