Local Support For Addictions Treatment Centre

The Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation Drug Strategy Committee is providing financial support for a new drug and alcohol program being established in Winnipeg.

The Committee is donating $1,000 towards the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre.

The long-term treatment option for men seeking recovery is modeled after the successful Fresh Start Recovery Centre in Calgary.

Local Drug Prevention Coordinator James Harrington says it’s their belief that long-term addictions treatment is a much needed service across the country and their financial support shows they acknowledge the need for longer stays in treatment for success.

Harrington says there are short-term support programs in place, but those fighting additions need something more sustainable in order to recover.

He adds by supporting such a program close to our community shows we support long-term care and aligns with their communities overall drug strategy.
