Closing the funding gap for all municipalities.
That’s one of the topics Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association President Dave Canfield says he wants to address this week at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference in Toronto.
Canfield says while policing costs will be going down this year thanks to a new funding formula for OPP service, he believes it’s still too high.
He stresses they need a more equitable formula for policing.
Canfield believes there are also problems with the new $100-million municipal infrastructure fund, which leaves area communities basically out in the cold.
He adds another priority is getting the twinning of the Trans-Canada between Kenora and the Manitoba boundary back on track.
Canfield says he’s pleased with the number of meetings they’ve managed to arrange with cabinet ministers.
