The high Canadian dollar has delivered a devastating blow to the forest
industry in Northwestern Ontario.
Buchanan Forest Products has announced the temporary shutdown of the
Atikokan Forest Products Mill, McKenzie Forest Products Mill in Hudson,
Dubreuil Forest Products facility near Wawa and Northern Hardwood in Thunder
Bay.
Spokesperson Hartley Multimaki says the shutdown will start November
16th and stresses the 4-mills will reopen at the end of January.
700 to 800 employees are impacted by the lay-off notice.
Multimaki says the 4-mills are viable and he still see’s a great future
for the facilities.
