Lakehead University is predicting a slight increase in their enrollment for the upcoming school year.
The deadline to apply to Ontario Universities is Wednesday.
President Fred Gilbert says the poor economy is playing a role in their application numbers.
Gilbert says most of the new enrollment will come from their Southern Ontario campus in Orillia.
He adds the Thunder Bay campus is predicting the same amount of students as last year.
Figures also show the competition is fierce.
Last year, about 84,000 High School students applied for 64,000 spots, up 4% from 2007.
