It appears the Kenora district is a hotbed for Lyme disease.
A study shows that Corkscrew Island, which is located near Clearwater Bay, has a large population of black legged ticks.
John Scott is a research scientist for Lyme Ontario and he says ticks being tested are showing an infection rate of 73% which he calls substantially high.
Scott has been researching Corkscrew Island for over 20 years.
He adds it was believed that the ticks couldn’t survive this far North, which he says is not the case.
