Ontario’s Chief Medical Health Officer says people in the North shouldn’t be too complacent about ticks that carry Lyme disease.
Dr. Arlene King says the black-legged ticks do make their north.
Expert on the subject Dr. Curtis Russell says the risk is not as great as it is in Eastern and Southwestern Ontario but it still remains.
Russell says the Lyme-carrying ticks migrate on birds from the south.
Dr. King says you can help avoid Lyme disease by wearing pants tucked into your socks and long-sleeved shirts as well as using insect repellent with DEET.
