Major Fire Destroys One Home on Thunder Lake

One lakefront home is destroyed but several others saved following a major fire at Harris Crescent.
Fire crews were dispatched to the blaze around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon.
Fortunately, a Ministry of Natural Resources Waterbomber was leaving the Dryden Airport at the time and began to immediately drop water on the flames.
Dryden and Wabigoon firefighters arrived and Deputy Fire Chief Ken Kurz says they managed to attack the blaze on ground.
Kurz says crews had to endure extreme heat, rough terrain and smokey conditions to extinguish the flames.
Paramedics treated 1-firefighter on scene for heat exhaustion but no one was injured.
The cause is under investigation.
Kurz says if it wasn’t for the MNR, several neighbouring homes would have likely been consumed by the fast moving fire.
