A major house fire in Waldhof is impacting the family that owns Kokom’s Bannock Shack in Dryden.
Josee Racicot, Bruce Dowsell, as well son Adam and grand-daughter Kaizly were able to escape the Sunday morning blaze with only what they were wearing.
The family lost two pets, a chihuahua named Harley and Bailey the cat.
Sister-in-law, Tammy Hourie says the family’s home was destroyed within a half hour.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Machin Fire Service, however, the family has lost everything.
Hourie says the community has been so great with supporting the family in their time of need.
“They have received lots of clothing already but it would be nice to get cash donations because they are living in a hotel room. They are also in the process of finding a place to rent and they will require first and last to move in,” Hourie says.
Hourie also tells CKDR that they will need the everyday necessities just like socks, toothpaste and dishes.
Anyone wanting to help or make a donation can drop it off at Kokom’s or Lotto One in Dryden.
A social benefit is also scheduled for April 5 at the Royal Canadian Legion.
Tickets are 10 dollars and you can purchase them from Kokom’s, Lotto One and the Legion, or call Tammy at 220-5660.
