Major Investment To Upgrade Emergency Radio Service

The provincial government has made another significant funding announcement.

Premier Doug Ford announced today (Thursday, October 17th) $765 million for a new radio system for Emergency Service providers including police, paramedics, conservation officers and fire fighters across Ontario.

“There out in gods country and they can’t communicate with each other. You know, we have an antiquated system for 20 years. We heard the previous government, ‘talk, talk, talk, talk’, but never did anything.”

Henry Wall is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Kenora District Services Board and he says the new system is badly needed.

“We can use technology to really pinpoint where an individual is, where the call came from. So that way, in our region, you can’t wait hours to find someone, especially in the dead of Winter.”

Bell Mobility and Motorola have been given the contract to build the new emergency radio system.
