Improvements are starting to be made on the Jaffrey Melick Ball Diamonds in Kenora.
On top of winning $20,000 from the Kraft Heinz Project Play Contest, the Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation also donated over $11,000 for repairs.
Melanie Buffett the Communications Representative for the Jaffrey Melick Field Project Committee says all that money will go towards phase one of the repairs.
Buffett says they have hired someone to evaluate drainage and elevation at the field and a blueprint of changes that need to be made has been established.
Dunit Contracting has been selected as the official contractor and will be putting in some drainage for the field for free.
Sierra and Pioneer Construction are both donating equipment and time to help get things underway.
Volunteer crews worked this weekend by pulling up all the fences surrounding the field.
Future upgrades include new infields at both fields as well as new bleachers.
Buffett notes fundraising efforts continue.
