The MPP for Kiiwetinoong is calling for a full inquiry into the Thunder Bay Police Service.
Sol Mamakwa says two recent investigations have found systematic racism not only in the police force but the police board.
“Will this government order a commission of inquiry and direct OPP oversight of the Thunder Bay Police Department until the inquiry is complete?” Mamakwa asked in the Ontario Legislature on Wednesday during Question Period.
Solicitor General Sylvia Jones says the province has already taken action.
“We have the Independent Police Commission. I have sent a letter to that public commission, asking for them to thoroughly investigate the Thunder Bay Police and the Police Services Board.”
Mamakwa says Senator Murray Sinclair gave the Thunder Bay Police Services Board a path forward for change, but his recommendations were ignored.
