A Northern Ontario man faces a half dozen years in a federal penitentiary for an unprovoked knife attack on a fellow Greyhound bus passenger.
David Roberts of Manitouwadge was sentenced to the equivalent of a 7-year prison term for the stabbing last September of a Japanese exchange student.
The judge gave Roberts credit for time spent in custody, leaving him with 5-years, 9-months to serve.
He noted the 29-year-old has a criminal record for violent offences and said the public needs to be protected.
Roberts stabbed the sleeping 20-year-old University of Saskatchewan student in the chest as the westbound bus approached White River.
