Manitoba NDP oust PCs

The NDP will form the next government in Manitoba under the leadership of former broadcaster Wab Kinew.

This comes after winning 34 of the province’s 57 seats, increasing the party’s seat count by nearly double what it had going into the election.

Kinew, originally from Onigaming First Nation in Northwestern Ontario, becomes the first Indigenous Premier in Canada’s history.

In her concession speech, Premier Heather Stephanson announced as a result of the outcome she would be stepping down as leader of the Progressive Conservatives.
